Predator Helios 300 G3-572-75L9 - suggestion for 2280 PCI-E NVME SSD + heatsink

Hello,

so I've got that model and I intend to put an intel 660p 2tb ssd. I'm aware that ACER just tested up to 512 GB, but it seems that people are using 1 tb successfully so I'll risk the 2tb. Have any of you tried it out?

One concern I have is that most of the 2280 PCI-E NVME heat up a lot and they seem to simply break if sustained heat is above 70° C. So I'm putting a heatsink on it, but it seems that the laptop won't accept any with >= 3mm thickness: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/559608/m-2-nvme-ssd-idles-at-46-50-degrees-celsius

Have you tried to install a heatsink like this? If successfully, which thickness?

Finally, I've read somewhere that this laptop will cap the transfer rate to ~ 550 MB/s. The intel 660p can achieve up to ~1800 MB/s. So will I be able to use bursts of ~1800 MB/s or will it will have a cap of ~550 MB/s?

Cheers.

Hello! Colleague @xapim previously reported that he was able to successfully install a ssd m2 2280 sata 3 2tb on this notebook model!
    Hey thanks!

I'm not worried about what heatsink could fit inside the acer. I'm thinking about something with 3mm thickness.
  • You can send a message to him and ask him the ssd model he got!

Hey Xapim :). Do you happen to use a heatsink? What temps do you usually get? I'm guessing this WD blue is not one the hot ones. I'm considering the Corsair (I wanted the intel 660p but gave up due to durability and poor performance reviews).

  • Were you able to install heatsink?

da447m its not nvme its just sata but again pretty good speeds for a sata and for the price of 1tb nvme you get 2tb sata which its just fine for gaming (in fact 90% in my almost 500 games including latest im running them all on my external 5tb 2.5 hdd only one of the games i had to move it to the ssd to be able to play it fine and it was MHW all other ones just fine even Anthem runs great on external hdd of course u need a really good usb 3.0/usb-c enclosure) and if you arent planning to do rendering works also the temps are fine regarding heatsinks they wouldnt probably fit if you only have one m.2 slot as far as i have seen the only successful installed were on double m.2 slot and giving up one of the slots for the heatsink to fit but i dont see any point in it but thats just me

Were you able to install heatsink?
Not yet. I will buy next month but I'll let you know. Probably I'll get a CORSAIR MP510, it is really fast, good TBW durability for the price.

It is good to install a heatsink because these NVMe can get real hot and go bust. The Helios 300 runs already quite hot. Just for you to know, I applied kryonaut but still temps go up to 77° C (people say that temps stay around 65°C with good thermal paste).

I'm 100% sure the NVMe will heat up everything even more and they need to work at most at 70° C.

da447m the max temps on my G3-572 optimized/undervolted and repasted are Gpu 70/75 cpu 75/80 on ultra all games you said 77 its pretty normal everything under 85 its acceptable more than 85 i would start to worry and again nvme its a waste of money if you are only going to use it for gaming for ex i played yesterday 4h non stop on FC new dawn on high 60fps constant vsync off and the max i had was  gpu 70 cpu 77 and this from my 5tb 2.5" 5400rpm hdd in my startech usb 3.0/usb-c 10gbps enclosure so as you can see nvme its a waste of money if just used for gaming if not for rendering works also not worth the extra money at all i really dont see the need for nvme and all ppl fixated on nvme just because it has more speed that you wont even use half of it but ok everyone is free to waste their money wherever they want :p i will always use hdds they are more than good enough to game only half a dozen games these days require ssd all other ones run fine from normal hdds

So, you think if it's for rendering works using like Vegas or Premiere or After Effects, for example, would be nice to use a 2TB NVMe SSD? Or the sata 3 m.2 would do a great job too? Thanks

Hey bro! Did you put the 2TB nvme SSD on your helios 300? If you got it working like that, could you talk about the experience? What brand did you get? Is it working normally? Do you have any links on this matter to share with us? Thanks a lol!
  • @natanrufino The user @xapim was able to successfully install a 2tb 2280 sata 3 ssd m2 on the g3-572 model.

@natanrufino The user @xapim was able to successfully install a 2tb 2280 sata 3 ssd m2 on the g3-572 model.
Yeah, I know that. It's well known. As a matter of fact I have talked to him a long time ago as to this subject. Nevertheless, I have not found anything about anyone having installed a 2TB  NVMe until today. I've searched for some news about overnight and today, at noon, a guy sent me a message saying he hada done that; "He has successfully installed a 2TB NVMe SSD on his Acer Predator Helios 300. I found him on youtube and left there my phone number, telegram's link, and e-amil so that he may get in touch with me, because I'd like to ask him about the brand, the model, so on and so forth...
  • Yes, I know that. Magnifying the video at 03:54, I verify that the model is this: g3-571-77qk.
