Case developing a "crack" on top left corner - a design fault ?

Hi,

I recently noticed that my Acer Predator Helios 300 laptop has developed a long crack going from top left of the hinge all the way to the "esc" key.
It has developed completely on its own...by that, I mean I have not lifted or moved the laptop since I got it. It is always on my desk.

Is this a common problem? Could it be a thermal expansion/cooling issue?
I have noticed that the plastic right under the display gets very hot( which is ok ) but it also seems to warp. I can feel the plastic get uneven/slightly bumpy when it gets hot.

PS: the laptop is less than a year old.
