my laptop [Predator Helios 300 PH317-51] has 1 stick of 16gb DDR4 2667MHz and i recently got  a new ram stick DDR4 8gb 2400MHz
only the 16gb is in duel channel the 8gb stick isnt, according to CPU-Z
is this how it is meant to be? as i feel like i have better FPS in games but feel stutters alot
will i swap their placement or that doesnt really matter??

Please check if you have the memory modules of correct specification.
This model has two DIMM socket number that supports maximum memory size of 32GB with DIMM Speed of DDR4 2133/2400 and  DIMM voltage of 1.2V.

this was not helpful at all, since the ram it came with is 2667MHz lmao
so either your completely wrong or acer did which i think i know who got it wrong
anyway, thats not what im asking if its supported because it is, im asking why one is dual channel and the other is single channel

In Task Manager, does it list 2400MHz or 2666MHz. The Predator Helios 300 PH317-51 has a 7700HQ processor running on the Intel Kaby Lake chipset family which is capable of running up to 2400MHz memory speeds.

So, you've either got a 2666 stick downclocking to 2400MHz or you have a different laptop/configuration.

Either way, memory comes in single and dual rank based on manufacturer and layout. This is a good explanation stolen from The Internet.

    "
In the "olden days" rank was identified by the specification "single sided" (single rank) or "dual sided" (dual rank) specification. All the ICs (the big black squares) being on one side (single sided) or split between two sides (dual sided). But modern manufacturing techniques allowed both single and dual sided to be either single rank or dual rank. The "sided" specification is sometimes still used, but what it actually indicated is ambiguous now.

DIMMs are often referred to as "single-sided" or "double-sided" to describe whether the DRAM chips are located on one or both sides of the module's printed circuit board (PCB). However, these terms may cause confusion, as the physical layout of the chips does not necessarily relate to how they are logically organized or accessed."

But don't confuse Rank with Channel. You will unlikely be in Dual Channel running different size/speed memory sticks.

its running at 2400MHz but your not answering the question, on CPU-Z it says my 16gb stick is in dual channel and my 8gb is in single channel, the frequency is fine..
