Disk Usage 100% on boot for a while

Everytime I log into my windows, the task manager shows 100% disk usage with some random processes running and eating up the disk usage. For a while my PC doesn't respond properly as well. But after a while, it automatically cools down and disk usage comes back to normal. Please HELP!
Thank you in advance.

    Good Morning Blackwatch1910 !

If the disk returns to normal after some time then your system does not display the constant 100% error.
In this case, the problem would be with the number of applications and services that are booting with Windows.
Access MSCONFIG and disable all non-Microsoft applications that initialize and restart the machine for testing.

    Hi Blackwatch1910,
If you're running Windows 10, do a ContTRoL-SHIFT-ESC sequence to enter the Task Manager. Select the Startup tab at the top and look to see what is having a High impact on your startup. If not needed, Disable the offender(s). (Startup disabling/enabling can't be done in MSCONFIG any longer). Do this before messing with Windows services.

The disk usage is going to be high, 100%, when the machine is starting up. After Windows has loaded and started all its processes, it should settle down to a normal below 10% level. While in Task Manager you can look at your CPU and Memory usage. If the CPU usage is always high you can't upgrade it. You can only run fewer programs to get the throughput up.

If the memory is very high, then the machine needs more memory so it will stop using the disk drive as memory storage. When the main memory is full, the CPU will roll the programs out to the disk to clear up space. Then it will bring jobs back in for execution. This all takes time and slows down your CPU. People think that if they add more memory the computer will be faster. That's only true if the memory in the machine is already maxed out so it's important to know where the bottleneck is before altering the hardware.

Check the status of your mechanical disk by using the program crystal disk info located at this link: https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskinfo/

If it finds your disk drive not performing properly, it might be time to change it before it fails completely and you lose all your programs and data.

  • You can also uninstall the antivirus, if you have one installed, as they run in the background. Also, disable all services and programs:
