Nitro won't power on

Hi. I needed to replace the screen in a Nitro 5, and stupidly removed the base before reading the directions (turned out I didn't have to). Well, I replaced the screen easily, but now the laptop won't power on. When I plug in the power adapter, the battery indicator turns red for a few seconds, then blinks red.

I tried the battery reset procedure:

Unplug AC power adapter.
Locate the battery reset pinhole on the bottom of the computer.
Insert a small paperclip in the battery reset pinhole. Hold the reset button for 4 seconds.
Let the computer sit for 5 minutes with no power.
Connect the AC adapter and power on the system.

There was no change after this, so I left the power adapter plugged in overnight with the battery indicator light blinking red. Now, no matter what I do, the battery indicator won't come on at all, plugged in or not. Thanks in advance!

FYI, the laptop's owner had had the power adapter replaced by Acer previous to my receiving the system. Could the adapter be bad?

have you checked that this button is being pressed correctly?

put some layers of electrical tape and test:

You can check with voltage multi-meter to see if the charger is working or not. Or else you could test the device with another working adapter ( by checking with the store )

Okay, the battery indicator light still won't come on when I plug in the power adapter. I put several layers of electrical tape on the projection above to make sure the button is pressed. I tested the adapter with a multimeter and the adapter is providing 19V power. So it appears we're down to the power port and the battery.

I tried removing the battery, reassembling the laptop and testing it - same problem, no power, no battery indicator lights. Does this model require the battery to be installed? If not, then seems to me it has to be the power port.

Yes, some notebooks only call when they detect the battery! However, have you checked by placing the original display, if the notebook reconnects? Have you added any other hardware?
