Hey My Helios 300 ( i7 7700 , gtx 1060 6 gb ) about 6 months old
Reaches upto 96 and stays at average 90 degrees . what to do. I can roast a chicken on this laptop. Please help
I owned a Lenovo y50 previously and did heavy gaming on it for 3 years , never had such massive heating issues ...
Someone help me
I heard about undervolting
but what should i undervolt ? cpu or gpu ? and how ?
I have seen many posts and videos
some are undervolting cpu while others gpu
Was buying this laptop a mistake ?
will i ever be able to play games smoothly again ?

Undervolt cpu, max fans, buy a cooling pad, and make sure vents aren’t covered. Repasting the cpu can lower tenps 10° too

I tried undervolting using throttlestop but pc started crashing.
Coolong pads are just a myth ? I mean do they do anything ? Most people say cooling pads dont lower the temperature.

I have also been experiencing this issue since a couple weeks ago on my Helios 300 (i5-8300H, GTX 1060)

For me, the temps of the GPU/CPU went up to ~98°C, then throttling until the temps got to ~80-85°C, repeating this until I turned off the laptop and let it cool down.

I downloaded Intel XTU and undervolted my CPU by -0.125, and since, it has not been as much of a problem. It has still been occuring, just not as regularly.

As @Auburn_Fox mentioned, repasting is probably going to help alot with getting the temps down. If you are not comfortable opening up your laptop, or don't want to void your warranty, I believe you can send your laptop to Acer and they will do it for you.

Undervolt the CPU using Throttle Stop. Go ahead and type 'Undervolting Predator Helios 300 Throttle Stop' at YouTube and watch HotelHero's video.
Undervolt the GPU using MSI Afterburner. Go ahead and type 'Undervolting Helios 300 GTX1060' at YouTube and watch HotelHero's video.
Cooling pads give slight to no apparent benefit at all, however by sitting on top of cooling pad, it increases the airflow to laptop compared to sitting it on a hole-less desk.

When repasting, use TF8 Thermal Compound Paste 13.8 W/mK for $11 at Amazon. This is, by far, the best thermal paste I've ever seen with reasonable price tag. Do not be too stingy when pasting it. Being generous, as long as still reasonable, will not give bad impact to the thermal. However, putting too little amount of thermal paste will make the temperature goes higher. Watch Linus Tech Tips on YouTube for this case. They discussed about several methods of applying thermal paste and the impact of each. Also, while you are at it, make sure to change the thermal pads. This might be important since I did not change them and I am suffering a pretty high thermal right now. They don't cost a fortune, but it might help you from early thermal throttling again.

One last thing is to make sure the fans are clean off dust. Dust can prevent the heat dissipation. It's real for some reason. Keep it clean using compressed air can. I don't know if you can do it with vacuum cleaner, but I have never seen one doing it with that before, so I can't say it's safe.

It is always 89C when I am playing far cry 5. And keyboard is hot too.

so I added Cush pads at each corners. And use AC fan to cool it down.
