I recently bought my self a new computer for work, an Aspire 3 A315-21-97AH. In order to have him run faster i bought 8GB of RAM and tried to install it on my laptop, the one i bought is said to be compatible with A315-21 so i think it is with mine too. Anyways, my laptop won't have it. Either he finally starts after a few tries but ends up crashing 30mins later or he just won't get past the error message when i boot him. Here's the RAM i bought : https://www.crucial.fr/fra/fr/aspire-a315-21/CT10638213
Any idea of what i should do? Thanks in advance.

    Hi @Armec,

Below is the Memory spec and upgrade details for your Acer laptop:-

To isolate your system issue, I recommend you to 1st remove the newly added RAM and check computer performance. If the newly added RAM is problematic, after removing it your computer should work good. Please post back the result. Fingers crossed :)

Indeed my comptuer works fine without the RAM plugged in but what i'd like is the computer working with the RAM. I didn't buy it to leave it outside my computer.. Thanks for the laptop's specs, i checked and normally the RAM is fully compatible, yet it doesn't work..
    Thanks for your answer.

@Balatekie i just realized the RAM is 1.2V, 2666MHz but it's a SODIMM, is this a problem? or the fact that is a soddim isn't?

I may need to update my BIOS if anyone knows how it's done? Thanks.

    Hi Armec,

Did you go into the Bios (F2) to see how much memory the computer finds? If the original ram was on a removable board, remove it before putting in the new one & leave it out to see if the machine functions OK with just the new one.

@topcat7736, the computer finds all 12G of RAM when in the BIOS. And the internal RAM is sealed, can't do much about this.

Memory upgrades are the toughest. Bad or mismatched memories cause all types of problems. A speed difference on the front side bus or a defective memory chip can cause the symptoms you are experiencing. Let's try the following:
    1) Remove the 8GB card so the machine will function normally.
    2) Boot the machine and load your browser.
    3) Go to the Crucial website https://www.crucial.com and down the page on the right is a scan computer tool. Run it and see what memory it says you should purchase. This will tell if you purchased the correct one. If so, then what you received is probably defective and should be exchanged by the seller. If not, maybe the seller will take this one back for credit and send you the proper one.
