Seems like this is a common Acer problem and I can't believe they have not addressed it after 2 years.  As to why it's happening it really just boils down to poor quality control.  If it's not a cable problem, more than likely your display was overclocked by Acer to its absolute limit before showing noticeable frameskips -- the best way to fix the problem typically will be to downclock your refresh rate.

Regardless its always good to follow these steps:

  1.  Try replacing the HDMI/Displayport cables.
  2.  Remove your graphics drivers and use https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html .  Reinstall graphics drivers.
  3.  If you are here at step 3, you have a defective monitor.  Best advice I can give you is to return or exchange your monitor.  Only continue these steps if you are outside the return window.
  4.  XXXXXXX.  First channel your rage and call Acer and complain about the problem.  They will try and make up some BS about how your frames are dropping outside of the freesync range, but trust me this is a complete lie unless you are running a potato.
  5.  Reduce your refresh rate:
a. Download CRU (<a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU">https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU</a>).<br>b. Unzip and run CRU<br>c. Select the first&nbsp; item in Extension Blocks.<br>d. Click edit<br>e. Select the 240hz resolution under "Detailed resolutions"<br>f. Click edit<br>g. Change the refresh rate to 220hz<br>h. Click Ok<br>i. Click Ok<br>j. Run restart or restart64 depending on your OS
