A515-51G-50LA - is this an E or F series - thinking it's a G with the code on the left
Still standard out of the box- windows 10 etc

The ACER will work without issues until I let it go to sleep
- not sure what the trigger is, maybe for a long sleep overnight??- but it will take extra effort to wake it up and the 'bling' sound out of the speaker is distorted like the volume is overpowered. It will then continue to go to sleep (if not touching it) after only a short time (regardless of settings).
If I don't keep it awake by touching it, the screen will go blank and even if I click mouse or buttons it continues to go to sleep.
Once 'fully' asleep, I can then wake it up with the 'bling' sound distorted as mentioned above.
I use a plug in mouse and sometimes this will not be recognised again without unplugging and reconnecting.
I have reported this to ACER b4 and they helped me to fix- but it only lasted a short time and has come back.
One of the things they got me to do was push a sharp object into a hole on the base of the main body.
Something they told me was 'that it may be due to a build up of static over time'
I have forgotten what the process was, and thought this might help other people in future if it was worked out here.

I know that I have not changed the menu settings that they got me to change last time, so maybe I should just try pushing a pin in the hole again??

Open  Control Panel. Search 'button'. Click 'change what the power buttons do' in left pane. Click 'change settings that aren't currently available'. Scroll down and uncheck the box for 'fast startup' to disable fast boot. Then change all the settings to sleep as shown in the first image below. Then search again for 'power plan'. Click 'edit power plan' in left pane. Change all settings to never as shown in the second image below. Report back on how the machine behaves after changing these setting. Jack E/NJ

Nope, nope & nope. Not hardware related. Win10 is unreliable. Win8.x was almost as bad. Win7 was at least half-way decent on avoiding such annoying behavior. As long as it works, think of something else to call it. How about magic?  :) Jack E/NJ

    Thanks JackE,
I did as you said but it may take a little while to test things fully as it is random.
Once it starts to do it, it stays that way till the computer is rebooted- and just before your reply the computer rebooted itself whilst asleep.
It does this every now and then too, so if I have not saved my work it gets lost. I learnt my lesson with that one.

    Noted so far-
I left it sleeping overnight to try and test it out. It woke 'cleanly' this morning but was non responsive (with the wheel of death) for about 2mins. The cursor would move around the screen but nothing was selectable.
There was no delay in operation after start-up/wake-up previously- am guessing it's due to turning off the 'fast start-up'??
    - the only thing open was the web browser where i have about 30pages in the tab (or more) - unable to open any with the 'wheel of death' going - then the web browser minimised on the screen before becoming active (when the wheel of death stopped).

I know this certainly loads up the computer having all these pages open- I can hear the fan come on as all the pages refresh after a startup.
Maybe this could have something to do with my issue???
Just had a thought- I didn't hear the fan go this time- but then again, I don't think it does after waking up, only after a fresh start/reboot

    Hi JackE,
reporting back that the laptop has not had any issues as per my first post.
However, is turning off the sleep function a fix, a work-around or part of a diagnosis?
I have purposely left it sleeping overnight rather than shutting it down- just to test it.
Will this answer lead us to narrowing down the cause so we can get this thing to behave normally?
I have treated all of my previous laptops the same and never had any issues like this (last one was a 3yo HP notepad).
This one is still under warranty, so if it is a defect with the machine, would be good to get it sorted by ACER.

Shall I restore the settings to original and see if it reoccurs?
