How To Set Up RAID 0

I have a Predator 17 (G9-793-79V5) laptop. When I bought it, I immediately replaced all the drives in it, and added a third. My current configuration is an HP 1TB M.2 SSD (my boot drive, with Windows on it). I also have a Western Digital 1TB M.2 SSD. My third drive is also a Western Digital; a 2TB 2.5" SSD. I used my own personal copy of Windows 10 to put Windows back on my computer. Because I set my computer up this way, my two M.2 drives are no longer configured in RAID 0.

I've now reached a point where I need to reinstall Windows, and I want to do a clean install, where I delete everything and start fresh - I've backed up everything I need to save. I'm considering going back to a RAID 0 setup (not because I think I'm going to gain any noticeable performance improvement, but mainly to have one less drive displayed, and because that's how Acer originally configured the unit), so I've got some questions:

1. How would I go about doing that? I downloaded Intel's Rapid Storage Technology program, but when I run it from inside Windows 10, it doesn't even show my HP M.2 drive (I'm assuming because it's my boot drive?).

2. My two M.2 drives are of equal storage capacity (both are 1TB), but they're two different manufacturers - can you even set RAID up on drives like that?

3. Is there any substantial reasons why I shouldn't (assuming I even can) configure my drives back in a RAID 0 set up?

Anyone who might be able to help me with this, I'd GREATLY appreciate it - thanks!

  • I believe this site can help you! However, there are some differences! In bios, change the sata mode option to rst with optane. When you exit the bios, press ctrl + i: http://codeketchup.blogspot.com/2016/03/how-to-setup-raid-0-with-ssd.html
I do not if the procedure is the same as the link! It seems to me that colleague @IronFly understands a lot about the subject! You can send a private message to him!

I can't find any way to set up RAID on my Predator laptop. There's only one reference in the BIOS to RAID (says something about current SATA setup as being RAID), but it's a non-configurable setting. Intel Rapid Storage Technology also shows only two of my three storage drives - one of my M.2 drives, and my 2.5 inch SSD.

I'm thinking this is all a result of my other M.2 drive being an NVMe drive, which is of course, a different, faster interface than SATA. So, I guess I'm stuck not being able to configure RAID on my laptop. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking only one of my M.2 slots supports NVMe (maybe RAID isn't compatible with NVMe; only SATA?).

@dmw_4814  You can only use/setup raid 0 with drives of the same type/size/format and preferably same brand to not have serious issues in the future and bare in mind that if one of the 2 drives fails you will loose everything as all data is split between both drives none of the files are physically  completein just one drive all have parts on both when i raid 0 personally i would never setup a raid 0 system to save anything important its a huge risk the only safest raid option its raid 1 that mirrors the drive into another
