Aspire 15 Nvidia MX150 issues with previously okay games

I got a new Aspire 15 E5-576-G with Nvidia MX150 around Christmas to replace a much older Acer (also non-gaming laptop).  Most of my games (GW2, lego marvel, naruto ninja storm 3) ran fine on the new laptop except for Skyrim, which had a frame rate so low it was unplayable even on the lowest graphic settings.  I took a break from PC games for a few months and when I tried to run them this week all either crash on the opening loading screen or run so slowly they are unplayable.  I thought maybe a recent Windows 10 update was the cause and have tried some suggested fixes from forum articles about that such as disabling and re-enabling the Nvidia MX150 driver, updating the drivers, and installing the GeForce Game Ready driver.  I've seen a number of instructions that suggest switching the default display to the nvidia graphics card, but I get a "You are not using a display attached to a NVIDIA GPU" message when I try to open the NVIDIA control panel.  I know the MX150 isn't really a gaming laptop, but all these games ran better on my older, not as good laptop with Windows 8.  I've seen a lot of different potential solutions but am not sure what to try.

    Good night waggles !

Updated all drivers, both Nvidia and Intel HD Graphics?
Is the device set to high performance in Windows power options?
Are you using a plugged-in power supply and the battery is 100% charged?
