Hello,
Bought my first computer ever june 2017, an Aspire ES 17 ES1-732-COH4. Thought it was a top quality product but after abt a year it started to freeze randomly. The retailer finds nothing wrong. They have started up the computer twice but no improvement. Being a complete novice I tried to run an error programme supplied with the computer. The machine declared that it suffered from "blue screen death" and then froze again. From this forum I understand that I am not the only one with this problem. Apparently Acer claims that there is nothing wrong with their product, the problem is Windows. Windows claim the problem lies with Acer. What should I do? Am I supposed to scrap my Acer and try to find a better product? Being new in the IT-world I am of course disappointed
Grateful for info, but not to complicated - I am a complete novice.

Shut the laptop completely off. Then turn it back on and immediately press and hold the ALT key while tapping the F10 key. A recovery screen should appear as in the video below. Try to follow directions for refreshing your laptop while saving your personal info. If the freezing stops happening but later returns after a few Windows updates, then it probably is due to the Windows updates. Then we can recover the system and block the errant update until a future update can fix the issue. Jack E/NJ

Thank you JackE for the speedy reply giving comprehensive instructions - will try this but believe retailer already tried this cure but the problem came back instantly. I will let you know the outcome.

    JackE,

It froze immediately when I switched it on after returning from retailer last time they tried to fix it.

Reset it again. When it starts freezing again, we can then look for an automatic restore point created by the update that's causing the problem. Jack E/NJ

    JackE,
Still not reset my laptop but failed to also mention that other than randomly freezing, it will definitely freeze if:
    a. I try to access my downloaded photos in Windows. Cannot download any photos from my Sony any longer.
    b. I connect the battery charger the fan revs up and down and the laptop will freeze after a few mins.
Are you still convinced that windows updates is the problem?

    >>>Still not reset my laptop>>>

Please reset the laptop by the ALT+F10 cold boot method. If it still has the problem after a reset, it's likely a hardware failure. Jack E/NJ
