Hello all, I don't know what to do next - apart from throw the Laptop out of the window.  It's been getting slower and slower, and I've attempted to roll back to a previous restore point this afternoon. I did this successfully with THIS laptop, a Lenovo on Tuesday, no problems. Anyway, the Acer is Windows 10 and it stuck for 4 hours on ''restore stuck on windows files and settings being restored, restoring the registry'' . I gave up and powered down by holding on/off.  On restarting, I got the ACER splash screen then just a black screen with the white arrow and blue circle on as if trying to load. I've tried powering up in safe mode to no avail.  I don't know what to do next.  Can anyone help please?  The Acer is about 3 years old.  It's still doing it now, 35 minutes after last powering it up again. Thanks for reading,  Ange x

Have I tried to reinstall the factory system by pressing ALT + F10 when turning the power on?
If a file has been corrupted in the forced shutdown, only a new installation can correct it.

    Good afternoon theange !

Restoring the system depending on various configurations may take up to 18 hours.
Ideally, leave the chore and do not rezlize forced shutdown.
Corruption of the system files may occur.

Many thanks MaClane, but that doesn't really help telling me to leave it, as I did force a shutdown.  What I'd like to know is, whether there is a method to stop the black screen after the ACER first screen appears.  Thanks.

Hello MaClane, well I've done as you suggest and it is indeed resetting the PC, and retaining files!  It's still on 1% after 20 minutes.  This is gonna take a few hours I think isn't it...  :-)
