Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro - Black edition : Power/Battery problem.

Hello,

I own an Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro - Black edition (Aspire VN7-593 Series) for 2 years now.

Some huge issues appeared lastly : Whenever I launch a video game, after maybe 10 seconds of gaming the screen brightness becomes very dark (even if the brightness bar is at the maximum). It is not the auto brightness thing since I disabled it, it is not a display problem. I think that it is probably a problem with the battery.

In the beginning I thought it was because of the charger : I bought a new one but it didn't work. Another symptom though : The battery charges very slowly ! It's been 3 hours and it only charged 5% so far.

I resetted my windows, reinstalled the battery drivers, but it only got worse. Now I can't even launch a video game, it makes my computer crash and I have to force shutdown it. I even got a blue screen DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.

I wanted to try to run the laptop without the battery, but unfortunately the battery is integrated to the laptop and I can't remove it (for now at least).
Does anyone knows what the problem is exactly ? And how to solve it ? I'm afraid I might need to repair it and that it would cost a lot of money.

Sounds like the internal battery is dying. The long charge cycle is a sign of this, as well as the screen dimming and the particular BSOD you received regarding power state failure. There are some battery procedures you can perform that involve 'resetting' the battery; but on a failing battery they do not work and they will not somehow bring to life a failed battery. Before starting heavy gaming loads, battery must already be near 100% charged, charger plugged in and power plan set to performance or balanced. If you don't start off with a near 100% battery, the power supply will have a hard time keeping up with charging the battery and running the high power games at the same time, gaming will be cut short and battery may actually lose charge even though plugged in. What the fellow jacke said is correct! My question is if the battery is taking too long to be charged when you are playing or when you are just in the windows environment?

It is taking too long to charge just in windows environment.

Thanks I will try to run the game with 100% battery then, but it is strange I didn't need to reach 100% battery to play before.

Yes I tried twice but it didn't change anything unfortunately.

Yes indeed the battery resetting technique didn't work. I think that it makes total sense, I'm gonna try to replace the internal battery then, it's not that expensive. Thank you !

Btw guys I can confirm playing with 100% battery didn't solve the problem.

You can check the battery's reserve capacity and general health in the elevated command prompt by entering 'powercfg /batteryreport'. Then doubleclick on the resulting 'battery_report.html' which'll display more than you want to know about your battery in your browser. Jack E/NJ
