I've been trying to install a 2GB RAM stick into my Aspire One D255 but when I insert it, at startup I get a black screen and fans just stop. Can't even get to POST. Same behavior is expressed when there is no RAM at all.

What I tried:
  • Got another 2GB RAM stick to try: Crucial 2GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM 1.35V CL11 (The first one was Samsung 2GB 2Rx8-10600S-09-10-F2)
  • Doing a power reset: Removing AC and battery and holding power button for 30 seconds
  • Updating the BIOS to v3.16
Original RAM stick is GDDR3-1333 1GB 128MX8 1.5V EP.

Please respond ASAP if you have a solution or need more info.

    Using a Hynix 2GB 1Rx8 PC3-10600S-9-10-B1 (salvaged from a AR3700) worked??
But can anyone explain why the other RAM sticks didn't work?

I tested the 2 RAM sticks I bought on my AR3700, The Samsung caused the same behavior as my net-top (blank screen, won't POST, and in this case no beep), but the Crucial caused the beeper speaker to wail like it was having a swansong!
I placed my original 1 GB stick with one of the Hynix sticks in my AR3700 and that worked... so my AOD255 now has 2 GB and my AR3700 now has 3 GB.

Now I'm really confused. Are both the sticks I bought miraculously dead on arrival? Or is there something about laptop RAM I don't understand?
    EDIT: grammar

Try swapping the places of the SODIMMs
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

The D255 only has one RAM slot.
