Predator G3-571 heats a lot when connected to power and using graphic intensive programs(otherwise at low 50s).the cpu is fine hovering at 85C but the gpu  stays at 95C (takes 5 mins to reach it, and stays...). But when the laptop is not connected to power, it performs way better than the throttled situation and also the temps of both cpu and gpu hower below 75C. i tried many things such as repasting , undervolting (both cpu and gpu), cleaning the vents, fans etc. Any game title's fps drops to 15-25 from 60+ in just 5 mins. i bought this computer july of 2018 and it didnt behave the same for the first 7-8 months. Even after reducing the graphic settings of the game , the gpu temperature doesn't become any better. i would be glad to hear suggestions for my problem. thank you =)

Laptop Specifications:
intel i7-7700HQ
NVIDIA GTX 1060 (6gb vram)
16 gb ram
256 gb ssd.

Hello! Have you tried replacing the thermal paste?
Yes, I repasted it with Cm makergel nano with 11 W/m-k

  • Have you tried cleaning the fans? Also, have you ever tried to purchase a cooling base with its own power source?

I have the same problem, Can't play any game newer than around 2000 or it overheats like crazy, I even have a Coolermaster laptop fan cooler stand underneath, doesn't make enough of a difference, Could this be a virus or a malware problem? like a Bitcoin miner or somethign of the sort?

Edit: I have already cleaned one of my computer already, iirc I think I was able to play new games then, But I've worked at a few IT tech companies and I'm stumped, Unable to clean it if it stuck around in the bios or other systems
  • It depends, but I find it difficult that this problem is caused by some virtual plague! There are some virtual plagues, which make heavy use of the processor and video card, which will consequently cause the processor to heat up! However, I still think this is some configuration problem!

Edit:  I bought my computer second hand, and it was scratchless and looked unused and it was, from the start I Was unable to play newer games, then I clened my fans of dust and I could play new games for a few days, then it sat unused for a 1-1.5 weeks and after that It started heating up again

ok, lets say it is a config problem, I'll test some stuff out. Out of innocent curiosity, why does the Bios seem to have the bare minimum of options, its almost only just VXR and VXT and bootup options. and only information?
  • Unfortunately, most laptops do not have the advanced features of bios! What is the bios version?

You mentioned the laptop did not overheat for the first 6-7 months of use. Now, the CPU hits 85C and the GPU hits 95C or higher.

So, when was the thermal repaste completed? During the first 6-7 months of ownership while it was running cool? Or was it performed after the 6-7 months when it started overheating?

If the former, the paste may have already reached it's lifespan and your application needs to be redone. If the latter, your application likely was not applied correctly and needs to be redone. Even with a VERY poor thermal material you should not be seeing 90C+ temps out of a mobile chip on the regular.

It's also worth noting that the fans, heatsink, and other small spaces in the laptop can fill with dust and hair in a matter of weeks. Depending on the environment, sometimes even sooner. So, if you go 6 months without blowing out dust there is a high chance the airflow is impeded again already.

I'll have someone custom make me a Heatsink out of pure gold, atleast then I can play my games on Higher than Low settings while currently peaking at 80°C <- Joke except the heat while playing XCOM 2, I'll change my Thermal padding and paste and see how that goes. thanks for the advice I'm sure that is my main problem with the overheating. Thanks again support staff, rare to get quality support and excellent responce times. o/
  • I use to eliminate the dust of the fans too!

    1.21  bios version

yeah, I cleaned out some dust and my performance improved, just incase anyone uses an Air Compressor, make sure to put plastic pins or something to hold the fans in place to not overturn and shorten the lifespan of the fans or damage them.

I have tried cleaning the fans but didn't try using a cooling base. Well, when I am not connected to power everything is quite good. Only the gpu overheats if connected to power . Or else both CPU and GPU  at 75-85C. I know that the gpu runs with a lesser clock speed while not being charged, but this performance is at least better than being throttled. Plz tell me I could optimize windows settings or Nvidia control panel settings, or which drivers to be used.
  • Have you tried reinstalling windows by pressing alt + f10, to make sure it is not some windows bug? Did this overheating happen after some windows update?

I personally have, Countless times, Tried a few different versions of nvidia drivers. I'll see how things go after I have recieved my quality thermal paste. Depending on my mood, I could try something I haven't before. Throwing the laptop gingerly out of my window, onto a matress of course. I'm not insane.
