I have my laptop for 14-17 months. Everything was always fine when i was on older Windwos 10 versions. I updated BIOS form 1.03 to 1.06 - all good. Updated to 1.07 for security patches - nice and dandy.
When i installed BIOS 1.08 while being on Windwos 10 compilation 1809 17763.379, laptop got problems with waking up - black screen while windows works normally.

Also when plugged for around 30-40 minutes with GTX1050 NOT ACTIVE, audible (and annoying!) coil whine can be heared from CPU area. Benchmarking the SATA 2.5 inch SSD or M.2 SDD with Crystal Disk Mark rises a lot the coil whine! Installing Intel HD 15.35 driver makes coil whine audible but quiet, yet still it's preety loud while benchmarking SSDs.
When GTX is active i can't hear coil whine from CPU area.

For testing i installed Windwos 10 1511 on M.2 drive with Intel HD 15.35 driver (other drivers updated). Coil whine is very low, sleep works.
So i think that:
1. New BIOS, new Windwos Update is causing problems with sleep.
2. Newest Intel HD driver (15.45 and newer) and newest Windows compilation + when components reach specific temperature with GTX off, audible and annoying coil whine can be heared. Why? it probabbly has to do with power menagment for disks and iGPU.

I don't know if i can send my laptop for the service to analyze it - my lid hinges broke off some time ago and i HAD to fix tchem myself with screwer - otherwise i could not get my job done!
So my warranty may be voided.

Unless you bought an extended warranty, your warranty has expired. I suggest that you try to install an earlier BIOS version preferrably the original if you hadn't had problems and just updated firmware for updates sake. Firmware updates are generally not recommended due to the risk of bricking or side effects. Jack E/NJ

  • Have you checked if restoring the bios by pressing f9 and then f10 to save on exit, if it solves the problem? Other users have installed this version of bios and have had no problems so far! Have you tried updating the video drivers on the intel and nvidia websites?

I live and currently i am in Poland. I bought that PC in Poland, EU, my manufacturer warranty is 2 year door2door by default - but i have made modification to the lid so my laptop could work for me when i was REALLY needing it -> i guess that my warranty is voided.

I can't install older BIOS - BIOS update app won't let me to do it.

I restored default BIOS settings today, i will check if this will solve the problem. First i will wait and see if this work, then if not - update the Intel HD drivers, as Nvidia drivers are up to date.

  • Removing the back cover does not violate the warranty, as long as you do not damage the notebook and do not break any warranty labels!

So it's OK now? If yes, make sure system protection is turned on in Control Panel's 'restore point' app just in case an update might be part of the problem. Jack E/NJ
