Good Afternoon.

Another Predator laptop that won't charge or turn on. The laptop just suddenly turned off one day, I assume from battery dying because I didn't notice it wasn't charging.

Symptoms - Not charging (No charge lights), Will not turn on.

1. Replaced Charger - Fail
2. Verified button in RAM panel is depressed when panel is closed. - Fail
3. Performed battery reset steps (unplug, press button, wait 5 minutes, plug power, attempt to turn on) - Fail
4. Replaced internal battery - Fail
5. Performed battery reset after replacing battery - Fail
6. Swapped RAM positions (random video tip, silly I know. stretching here) - Fail
7. Performed battery reset, letting laptop sit overnight before plugging power - Fail

I'm out of ideas. I have no idea what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

Thanks

We can end this troubleshooting. Motherboard is busted. I left the power plugged in and one of the components started to spark at a seconds interval after sitting there for an hour.

Seeing as a new motherboard cost nearly $600, this is just going to be sold for parts.

Peer into the charger jack with a flashlight to make sure the center pin and slider contacts are still visible. Jack E/NJ

Still visible and still seem to be making good contact with the charging adapter plug.

Will it turn on plugged in without  battery connected? Jack E/NJ

Will not power on with battery disconnected. (Ensured the ram button was pressed when I tested)

Not too silly. Test each slot with each module alone. 2x2=4 combinations.  :) Jack E/NJ

Unfortunately, no change. RAM swapping did not work.

Does the RAM compartment switch seem to click as if spring loaded? If not, try to repeatedly press it to try to clean its contacts. Jack E/NJ

Yes, its in good working condition. Additionally the laptop is well taken care of and very clean. No obvious damage to any part of the laptop or motherboard.

Likely a power board failure. Unfortunately I don't have access to exactly how it interfaces with the mainboard & KB power button. Is machine still under warranty? Jack E/NJ

Unfortunately not. And it interfaces directly into the motherboard.

The KB seems to be connected to the mainboard bottom with a ribbon cable. If it were mine, I'd at least pull the bottom case and re-seat the connector a few times to see what happens. Jack E/NJ

As long as you've gotten this far, you might as well try resetting the embedded controller switch (SW3) . Follow this link

Still no good. Even took the time to remove keyboard and touch pad connections while the case was opened.

OK. Here's the troubleshooting workflow for power-on issuess. The power board must be attached to the KB upper case under the power button since I don't see it highlighted separately as a part number on the mainboard top or bottom. But it looks like it's replaceable (or re-seatable) if you can find the thing. Jack E/NJ
