DVD help for a computer Aspire V17

This is an old problem for some, but a little while back my Aspire V17 Nitro DVD player stopped connecting, not even telling me it *has* a DVD drive let alone play anything from it. Reading through similar questions here, it sounds like it might be related to Windows 10, but I've really no idea. The challenge is, I know almost nothing about computers and reading the solutions to similar problems go a little bit over my head.

Is someone patient enough to explain to me in really simple terms how I'd find my DVD driver, identify what type of DVD drive I have, and how to either upgrade the driver or install it so that my laptop plays movies again?

Which EXACT model of your Aspire V17 Nitro?
Have you tried just removing the driver physically and replacing it?

There are different kinds?
This is the line item in my original order back in 2016: 34734 Acer Aspire VN7-791G-78ZM 17.3" LED. Does that help?

I haven't seriously considered replacing it because I really don't want to spend any money. I don't *need* to play DVDs on it, although it was nice when I could. If it's a software issue I can fix with an update or reinstall, I'd like it back.

Hello! Does the error code appear in the device manager? Have you tried deleting the keys upperfilters and lowerfilters here? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

as per the model number your device has *** SuperMulti DVD R/W ****

First check if the DVD drive is listed in file explorer. If it is then i suggest you to connect any disc and check in file explorer to see if the DVD recognises it. If it does show the name of CD on instead of DVD drive then double tap the drive and check if it shows the tracks or folders. if it does then Autoplay settings need to be fixed and nothing to be worried about DVD drive.

If it does not detect the disc then go to device manager and check for DVD drives, uninstall the drivers and restart the unit. Post this share the result.

No error code and, in fact, no DVD player listed in my device manager unless it has a weird name or is in a subgroup I can't guess.

I also don't have anything labelled upper- or lowerfilters.

No DVD drive shown in the explorer either with or without a DVD inserted.

In the Device Manager, I can't find a driver or where one is supposed to be. Would it have an unexpected name?
