Swift SF315-41: Fingerprint (EGISTEC) not working

Good morning,

I bought the PC around a month ago and the fingerprint was working fine. However, after a couple of days and some automatic Windows Updates it stopped working, I didn't get any reaction from putting my finger on it anymore. In the Device Manager the fingerprint reader drivers were under Hidden Devices. I did a clean install of Windows 10 using the tool provided by Microsoft but it didn't solve the problem. I thought it was because I was missing Acer default programs so I resetted the PC to factory using the built-in tool but while doing the out-of-box set up it didn't ask anything about fingerprint.

Now the PC is as it came out of the box, but under Device Manager there are no drivers relative to the fingerprint reader (not even hidden) and in Settings > Sign-in Options under Windows Hello there's written "Face and fingerprint recognition are not available on this device". In Control Panel > Programs and Features I can see "EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor WBF Driver" (I even downloaded it again from Acer support page) but it doesn't show up as a proper driver.
Everything should be up-to-date since Windows Update works fine and is saying I'm ok.

Has anyone had the same problem or has suggestions on how to solve this?

EDIT: Another weird thing I noticed is that in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controllers there is a problem with Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) which keeps showing an error icon (yellow one). I tried updating the driver, checking for hardware changes and even uninstalling the driver and rebooting but nothing worked. Could it be related?

I've had the same problem a few times over the period of my ownership. Latest fix I've discovered was to download the fingerprint driver from Acer, install, click repair option. I'm back in business.
