erm, should I sort out the bois issue first or.... ok goes like this ; have old laptop, bought for spares, decided to check its good;

Entered bois to find supervisor password locked. changed relevant uefi settings and the system date. new bios battery.
Got a drive, put it in, installed win 10 64bit. put in acer care package, GeForce drivers ect. all updated.

Now the problem , A;
power , and acer care, show battery is good, fully charged.
Although I cant boot on it, only ac power. it wont stay awake if I pull the ac plug out, No battery.
Cant seem to get adifferent response by resetting the battery, using the pin hole switch.
B; I cant use the blue Fn caption on the keyboard. winkey + q, only brings up cortana. can remove that.
Also since a driver update the keyboard never turns on.
C; via acer care and driver manuals section for this laptop, acquired bois update package. bois update for inside h20.
This now tells me, photo available, that I cannot run this while on battery power.
Ok, the battery does not work and is plugged in to ac power.

What should I do next ?

Hello! Try these tips:

a) Remove the AC adapter and battery drivers:

b) Disable fast startup:

Then unplug the notebook and unplug it from the electrical outlet.

c) Press the battery reset button again for five seconds and leave the notebook off for five minutes. Then make sure the notebook stays on the battery!
d) If there is a power interrupt button similar to this on the motherboard:

ok, then pu it all back together. then press the on button. with a little luck it should boot on the battery alone ?

no, it did not start on battery. preferences same as above. power button not operational , or should I plug it in to ac power ?

Plug in the electrical outlet and then unplug the notebook from the electrical outlet and make sure it shuts off on the battery!

right, that told me 'critical low battery'. then it shut down would only restart from power button with ac plugged in and switched on. should I have left it alone then, presumed it was charging maybe or restarted with power button but ac not plugged into laptop ?

When you said this "new bios battery", did you mean it replaced the rtc battery from the motherboard, or did it replace the lithium battery? If it is the lithium battery, what is the specification of it? Does it have the same voltage as the previous battery?

And did this problem occur after replacing the rtc battery? Have you found this power interruption button yet?

as the board is there is only a button near the cmos battery. that I think is the battery reset button. when laptop is finally put back together, after reinserting rtcs/cmos battery. a; there is no power to start the laptop from (li)battery. I don't think this was any different prior to cmos bat replacement.

What is the voltage of the new lithium and old battery? What is the partnumber of both batteries?

ok, there's a little confusion here. I have not replaced the lithium. I have replaced the rtc/cmos battery.
the lithium battery spec and numbers are; acer ac14a8l 11.4v/4465mAh.

OK! Let's do it by steps:

a) If the notebook shuts off on the battery, this may be occurring because of the power interrupt button, which may not be pressed properly. It's a button similar to this:

The interrupt button is not the same battery reset button!

b) On the keyboard, check that the bios has a function named "function key behavior" and change the options! Also, make sure that you uninstall the keyboard driver from the device manager if the problem is resolved. Also check if there are any driver problems in the device manager!

c) The bios can only be updated when the battery is detected! This is a safety measure! You can also update bios by updating this driver:

But it is a risky procedure and I do not take any responsibility for any damage!

no. there is no system firmware driver, where is that anyway. in device manager, its not listed. problem.
Fn keys work fine. keyboard lights.
there is acpi compliant control method battery and ac adapter under batteries, in device manager.

no, I don't think it does sort out the problem. whether it sets it to 'using ac adapter instead of battery' , I will have to check.
ok I checked an idea out. I disabled the battery in device manager. kept ac adapter installed. rebooted. got it in ac mode. I ran the bios update, kbc correct state, and it gave me the message ' please insert battery. I was thinking if I enable battery in device manager that it might work. I have not done this yet.
