Hi everyone
I bought this Acer Aspire A515-52 S/N ***********************. Everything worked fine.
I decided to upgrade the HDD and RAM so I removed the original 1TB HDD and installed a 256GB SSD, created a bootable USB flashdisk with the same version of Windows as what the laptop came with and installed windows. All good . I downloaded the the wireless lan driver to connect to the internet and downloaded and installed all the drivers for this model from the Acer website and ran Windows update, after which I expected everything to work, except the trackpad was dead.
So first I had a look at device manager, the section for Mice and pointing devices didn't even show up which made me think its hardware related and not driver related.
I opened up the laptop and made sure the connection of the trackpad was securely fitted, all good but the problem remained. Next I checked my Bios to see if it got turned off somehow, no luck.
Being at my wits end I put the original HDD back with the idea of sending the laptop back for repairs (I thought i might have broken something).
To my amazement the trackpad work again. I looked in device manager and confirmed the Elan driver I needed is the one I got from the Acer website.
Back to the new SSD. I tried to install the driver and this is the log I got:
