MY Acer TC-280 powers on okay, however the Power LED light stays steady without indicating/flickering to show its HDD activity

My other Acer Aspire-AM3970 Power LED light does indicate/flicker to show HDD activity

Nothing has been changed internally or BIOS/CMOS of either model Acer Aspire

Why one Acer Desktop and not the Other ?   Suggestions ?

Appreciate your time reading/replies

There are a few different things, most of them not really good, that can cause a steady HDD indicator light. If you are reasonably sure it's not just a background task hammering the drive (like a virus scanner or such) then I'd look into running a SMART test on the drive, just to make sure it's not complaining about an imminent failure.

billsey, thank you and I appreciate your reply...the other Acer an AM3970 is much older, was used heavily daily from Sep 2011 until May 2017, now a secondary use.

The TC-280 I question even new out of the box, has the LED Power/HDD Indicator Light Flickered at all.

However, does remains constantly illuminated when Power is on.

Even from Start-up Powering on never flickers.  I also monitor/look on occasion Win10's Task Manager CPU, Memory, Disk Process Percentages.

I also run Acer's Care Center System's Checkup & Tuneup HDD Diagnostics & Maintenance, currently both Good 0% needing defrag.

Aside from cleaning (light canned air dusting), never have changed BIOS/CMOS, or System Configurations.

I do not know if there are others with or have used Acer Aspire TC-280 having noticed the same.  So I cannot compare.  I have other PC's HP, Dell and Compaq, Lenovo none with this issue.  Running XP Pro (required for old software compatibility), Vista, Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10.

In my 32+ yrs computing, never have had a Desktop/Laptop/Tablet experience HD failure or experiencing imminent failure.  I also run on occasion SFC /scannow and
Run the DISM Tool.  However, these are more software related conditions missing or damaged system files.

The System/Mother Board might have an issue from day one, a switch not flipped or proper wiring configuration, since I do not know the schematics, I have not pursued this option.

    Thank you, Doc

I believe I may know what's going on... The TC-280 has a power indicator light and not a HDD status. That means it's working as expected. ;)

    billsey,

Anything is a Possibility, it would be the first of the Desktop & Laptop PC's I currently have up and running, for the last several years.  Thanks for your thoughts and replies.  Appreciated, Doc

I think what has happened over the last several years is that disk activity lights tend to generate more calls to technical support (my computer is blinking the light even when I'm not using types of questions), and since disks have been getting faster (especially SSDs) it's been less critical to display that activity. And heck, it's got to cost several cents to add it in. :)
