I am trying to use a bootable USB so that I can secure erase a Samsung 840 EVO. It does not show in the boot device list. I also tried the F12 boot and it doesn't show there either. Any ideas?

Try creating a Linux bootable USB if you want to format whole disk.
Windows bootable won't allow you to delete previous windows. With Linux live you can format whole disk without installing Linux on your system.
Use Rufus to create bootable USB.
    Hope it helps.

THe boot disk that the Samsung magician made is a Linux boot disk. I don't have any choices other than UEIF bootable device in the BIOS.
