Okay so I've been trying to solve this issue for the past two weeks. I have tried undervolting, overclocking, uninstalling bios, re installing, updating drivers, optimizing windows, did everything under the sun in nvidia's control panel. I still in most games besides (csgo/apex legends/warframe) get fps drops or lag at some point. Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy 15, Metro Exodus, and even sometimes Dragon Quest 11 when I go to a city or a place filled with a lot of assets or every 30 seconds 90fps to 30fps without a change in temps or spikes in them whatsoever. I can run these games at low-ultra with minimal difference in fps level but the fps drops are insane. I can't stand dealing with all of the stuttering and I feel like i've tried everything. If anyone one has any clue what it could be related to because my temps never reach more then 80 degrees. I am currently running on A 1TB HDD & 8GB of ram maybe that could be an issue? I just don't plan on spending money on upgrading something if it does nothing to fix all of the fps drops in larger AAA games.

Some games cannot be played on an HDD.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Such as? would an ssd be a solution to the random fps drops in larger games?

I can't guarantee that, but so far I have played Forza Horizon 3, which would hang every 2-3 seconds in a matter of miliseconds, when it was installed on an HDD. Moving it to the SSD fixed the issue and I didn't experience this freezing with SSHD as well. I can't give an example of any other game, because I am not using HDDs anymore.

The laptop has an M.2 port for M.2 SSDs, which means you don't have to remove the HDD, and additionally you can install the OS onto the SSD, which will improve the boot times a lot and make your device seem much faster.

I've been monitoring it a bit with XTU and during games that are only using like 20 percent of the cpu and then the cpu spikes to 100 i get a minor hitch or stutter in the game. I am not sure if that would be related to it at all.

@loschool basically all newer games and some old require ssd as it was stated by @ven98 for ex Anthem doesnt like hdd's and u need to optimize your windows/undervolt (TS not xtu) if you havent already also check you fans and airflow exit for debris if needed last option its to repaste with kryonaut or similar but dont do it yourself without first check with your seller/shop or acer if it voids your warranty if so only acer or certified acer repair center can do it

undervolting barely does anything for my pc unless i reel back the cores and completely drop the turbo boost from 38-41 to about 29-30. Even with low temps I still get spikes in cpu usage randomly paired with stuttering. The laptop doesn't power throttle and I've been monitoring it consistently. The computer is brand new and the system never really gets hot. I only used xtu to monitor the power throttle since it shows the information on the graph. I only use TS for the undervolting. The hottest its gotten was about 85 while playing far cry new dawn and it didnt suffer any frame drops just minor stutters every now and then when entering different areas or when the screen  was filled with a ton of assets. It regularly never gets warmer than 65-70. I'm really thinking it may be an ssd issue. The computer has been optimized and it hovers around 2% cpu usage idle and 30-40% memory usage. While playing games I can reach memory usage ranging from 70-95% im assuming this is due to my ram only being 8gb and not having much headroom is causing the system to slow perhaps?

8GB its not enough for anything these days i recommend to upgrade to 16 dual channel meaning get another 8gb sodimm same clock/CL if possible same brand im almost sure that your issues are all ram/ssd related so u need to upgrade your ram and get a m.2 sata/nvme ssd

Awesome thanks for the suggestions folks. I just ordered the matching 8gb Kingston Ram, a 256Gb SSD and artic thermal paste so hopefully those things take care of the issue!

@loschool don't forget to check with your seller/shop or acer support if you breach/void your warranty by repasting yourself

Re-pasted it yesterday as well as installed my new nvme ssd. Everything is performing so much better so far, metro runs like a dream and the open world games are the only ones giving me little hitches but no huge fps drops or thermal throttling hopefully once 8gb of ram arrives that it will help smooth out the little hiccups during some games.
