Acer ED323QUR + HDMI 1.4 + lenovo ideapad z510 black screen at WQHD

I have  lenovo ideapad z510 with both Linux and Windows. On both can't make the monitor work at WQHD. On the Linux I can't get it above 2560x1100, on the windows it is running at 2560x1300. With either running at 2560x1440 causes the monitor to display black screen. I have tried updating the drivers to no success. It seems to me all the components should work - I think my laptop should support it, the cable seems fine, the monitor according to the specs should be fine. Yet I can't get it to work at WQHD. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Edit managed to convince it to do 2560x1350 when I set it to 50hz on the linux but still not 1440
