My i7-8750H started to overheat.

Hi to all,

I bought my Predator Helios 500 1 month ago,and I undervolted the i7-8750H CPU for -140 mV via editing the Predator Sense CPU profiles with XTU.

I have played long game sessions and the CPU has never overheated since Yesterday.

The max CPU temp as far as I remember was around 78-84 degrees Celsius while playing GTA V for an hour.

But when I played NBA 2K19 the max temps were arround 60 degrees Celsius till Yesterday.
But now the CPU reaches 64 degrees Celsius at the moment of starting NBA ,and arround 77 degrees Celsius for a few moments of playing!

Please tell me how do I fix this?

Also please tell me how do I turn off the Intel turbo boost while the Balanced Power plan is activated?

I tried to set the maximium processor state to 99%, but it resets at every boot to 100%.

Please help me.

Thanks to all in advance.

    CALIBRATION AND BATTERY RESET

First, disable Quick Start in the power options and disconnect the notebook from the power outlet.

    httpswwwhowtogeekcomwp-contentuploads201602fast-startup-650x313pngpagespeedcekM3Qa70mcUpng

    BATTERY CONTROLLER RESET
Access the device manager and look for the "acpi-compatible control method battery driver" and "microsoft AC adapter" and give it up.
Then restart the notebook for Windows to reinstall and remove any errors.

    httpsimagesdrivereasycomwp-contentuploads201811img_5bfe7020cb7efjpg

    Process to reset the battery

        Disconnect the power adapter.
Locate the hole to reset the battery in the bottom of the computer.
He inserted a small clip into the hole. Hold the reset button for 05 seconds.
Let the computer rest for 5 minutes without power.
Plug in the power adapter and turn on the system.

The button is the type that is identified in the photo.

    External Battery Pack

If your notebook has an external battery, proceed as follows:
1- Unplug the appliance from the mains and then disconnect the battery.
2- Press the power button for thirty seconds, so that the static power is dissipated.
3 - Replace the battery and turn the unit on.

    Process for calibrating the battery

For this, you must turn off the device and give a 100% charge.
Then unplug and use the battery until the battery runs out.
    Reload it as before.
Repeat the process 3 times so that all cells are fully calibrated.

    Good afternoon predatorofman !

Were temperatures too high in GTA V or only in the NBA?

Have you checked for a recent Windows update?

The temps were high only for GTA V,but now they started to be high for NBA too.

I have not checked for recent Windows updates.

The device is idle, the turbo boost is not activated by default.

As @MaClane said and very well turbo boost will only activate when a high demanding game or demanding task would need it to apart from that it will be always on stock clock

I finally found out that my CPU idle and under load temps are higher for 4 degrees Celsius than before.

Factors that may influence are to use the apparatus in an airy place, to use under a surface that helps to dissipate the heat better and not obstruct the air intakes, to acquire a cooling base with active cooler.
These procedures together can get to dim up to around 30 ° C internally depending on how to proceed.

I am using a powerful cooling pad.

The max CPU temp at idle were at 34-36 degrees Celsius, and since 2 days ago they increased to 42-43 degrees Celsius.

What can I do to get them lower?

Maybe undervolt the i7-8750 H more?

It is undervolted for -0.140 mV at the moment.

This processor is designed to support TJunction maximum TDP of 100 ° C.
This is the maximum safe temperature it can reach before the instructions lower the clock to preserve the integrity of the system.

By the way, the temperatures are at an optimum level.
I do not see any great need to perform risky procedures only to lower some degrees that you want to present any gain.

This increase may have been due to some driver and controller updates or, especially, poorly scheduled Windows 10 patches in their forced updates.

Furthering your undervolt will push you closer and closer to instability. If you're not exceeding 85C under load your cooling solution is doing it's job to the most of reasonable expectations. A rise in idle temps by a few degrees is not significant unless you also see that rise under load, pushing you past reasonably safe limits of the CPU.

Something as simple as dust ingress can result in higher idle temps. It can also be on the software/operating system side as background services update, scan, install, etc. An antivirus scan in the background is a perfectly good example of something you won't see that will raise your idle temps.

    I have an another question.

I used the laptop plugged into the AC while it is on.

And BatteryBar Pro was showing me a 0.5 % battery wear till this night, when I unplugged the AC and let the battery completely discharge .When I turned the laptop on now and plugged in, BatteryBar Pro started to show me battery wear of 4.0 %!

    How is this possible?

Perform the battery cell calibration procedure.
They wear out over time by losing standard load control.

    It's the ideal.

All of these procedures ensure that all static energy is completely removed, the controllers are zeroed to remove any traces of errors, and the cells are properly calibrated.
