I replaced a motherboard in an Acer ES1-531-P2B3 laptop. When I go to activate the previous Windows 10 key, it does not authenticate. I contacted Microsoft and they said the key is stored in the bios and the original key would not work. Microsoft told me the license key I found using Jellybean was just a default key. The motherboard was purchased new on eBay. I ran the Acer support software and it showed me a different serial number and SNID as though it’s attached to another laptop. Is it possible to use the old key? Any ideas on what I can do to get this to work? Thanks.

Is the machine still booting to the ACER-flavored Win10 that was on the original SSD or HDD? Jack E/NJ

The original hard drive had failed.

If you didn't make a backup image AND if you still have the machine's original serial number id (SNID) from the bottom case label or original box it came in, you can purchase an ACER-flavored Win10 recovery USB stick or DVD disk from the ACER online store https://store.acer.com/en-us/extended/recovery/  . About $46. If you don't have the SNID, you ***might*** also be able to use the OEM license key. If not then you can  purchase a generic Win10 license from Microsoft and install the ACER drivers if needed from the ACER download site https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/6061?b=1 .  Jack E/NJ
