I never have to use my card reader after 3 months when I first got this ultrabook and just found out memory card reader is not taking any SD card as it will not recognize anything.

I have checked the Device Managaer and found there is nothing installed. Download the driver and install but it is still not being recognized. Does anyone else have similar problem?

I hate to send my ultrabook back for warranty service....

Hi everyone !!! I've got a solution about card reader. Go to Device Manager. Looking for category Universal Serial Bus Controller. Expand it and search for Generic USB Hub. Open it. Move to the tab Power and press button Refresh. For a while you can see Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader and be HAPPY with this. If it does not help then move to the tab Advanced and try to press Reset Hub button. Should help. As a result, I can see the Card Reader in Device Manager and power 500mA. Now it is plugged in, before it was just unplugged so we could not see it in Device Manager.

Download the latest driver 6.2.8400.30143 from Realtek Website.

To test it, I got SDHC Memory Card I was surprised that Card Reader does not read/recognise this Memory Card. According to Official Manual - "

Accepts one Secure Digital (SD or
    SDHC) card or MultiMediaCa
    rd
(MMC)". Why does it NOT work. Put it in and NO REACTION but device is visible in Device Manager...Possibly, I need just SDSC Memory Cards. But, such combination looks much strange as Acer S7 comes with TOP DEVICES on the board... And it supposed to read every SDx standard. Just FYI my old Acer can read this card without any questions... That's interesting... What is the next step??? What standards this card reader supports??? Good luck with it to everyone...

I tried with other Acer S7 laptops. It was fine. How does it work??? Explain... On the PCs at retail points where I tried it was like that: I opened Device Manager - there is nothing mentioned about card reader. OK. So, tried to put  SDHC memory card in. It works. Search in Device Manager - I could see Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader. So, It works like that, and possibly, you cannot watch card reader in your system when your memory card is taken out. Similar to USB devices. Once plug it in, watching new device in Device Manager. In my case, card reader was installed with default Windows driver like USB Mass Storage Device so that I could not get it as Card Reader. I tried to install the driver manually for that GHOST device, supposing as Card Reader, from Realtek driver folder, and it had been successfully installed. Version 6.2.9200.30150. But it still does not work and I watching it permanently in Device Manager, what seems strange as other PCs I checked, handled to different way as USB. My guessing is 1 - Software problem. 2 - reader problem(but strange how is it possible - spoiled reader or what???) Why reader is permanently watching in system. Hope it will be resolved in near feature by software updates, especially Windows Updates...

    Hi Friends,

Yep, same thing happened to me -- the SD card reader didn't respond when plugging in my card.  Went to the Device Manager, and clicked on the Intel 7 Series/C216 usb controller and it was NOT ENABLED.  Simply click Enable and have a good day.  Smiley Happy
