So, following the useful info from some Acer community members, I acquired the needed hardware to install a second drive in the 2.5" bay.  I have found that once the connector is attached the laptop will not boot up.  The blue power indicator light goes on for a few seconds then off again.  This happens even when the connector cable is not attached to the second hard drive, only to the laptop. Once the connector cable is detached the laptop, the laptop boots up fine.  In the BIOS, the only drive listed in the boot order is the existing SDD.

I have the same problem. Is that really a defective SATA cable cause the problem, or we need to have some sort of config change in BIOS?

No! Added drive should be detected by the BIOS chip, not cause the machine to shutdown. Jack E/NJ
