Why does my Predator G9-793 freezes and glitches sound while playing games then restarts?

I've been having this issue for some weeks now. Every time I'm playing the laptop works for 20 minutes approx. then randomly freezes and the sound loops as a glitch and stays there until a hard reset or it will turn off then takes some time to turn on again. The problem doesn't present when I have the laptop unplugged from the AC Adapter but I'd have to use lower graphics quality to do so.

I've been reading online and doing things trying to fix this but nothing has helped so far.

I've tried updating the graphics card's drivers, updating BIOS, changing power profiles and power settings, changing Nvidia settings, uninstalling the Nvidia Experience App and using discrete graphics mode so far.

  • Hello! Have you checked the temperatures through the predator sense and hwmonitor? The notebook only reaches its maximum performance when connected to the power adapter! Have you tried on another electrical outlet? Is your electrical outlet grounded?

    This is how it looks when I'm playing, I waited a little bit till I heard the fans speeding up a little bit to make the screenshot. 

    I also tried a different power outlet. I've had this laptop for almost a year now with the same outlet and it's the first time this is happening.

    Is any error code displayed when the notebook freezes?
    No it doesn't show any error, I had once a windows blue screen with the message: 
    but it only happened once.

    @andresacross thats is a driver issue get nirsoft bluescreenviewer and open the bsod to check in which driver is the issue uninstall it and reinstall it

    Uninstall the driver using DDU.
    Newer Nvidia drivers might have issues like the one you described.
    I recommend using Acer made drivers.

    The latest driver is 388.93 available at the Helios 500 driver page.
    Conpared to latest Nvidia drivets it gives better 3DMark score and smoother frames when I play with my G5-793.

    This did the trick for some time, some hours I should say. It keeps happening. I took it for a full diagnosis and according to them everything it's fine, except is not .

    Have you done any type of undervolting on the CPU?
    Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

    Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

    I tried this too, but no luck. I'm so frustrated with this computer right now. It works perfectly for everything except for gaming which is the main purpose of it hehe.

  • OK! Uninstall and delete the AC adapter and battery drivers in the device manager and restart the notebook!

    Have you updated your BIOs?
    I have an issue with my Predator 17 where it would black screen after a short period of time, updating the BIOs fixed it.
