HDD/SDD Upgradeability of the Swift 3 SF314-54-54VT

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased an Acer Swift 3 (SF314-54-54VT) NX.GXZAA.010 and I was wondering if it is possible to keep the 1TB HDD that's included and add an M.2 SATA SDD. I can't seem to find a picture of what the port layout is (the three teardowns of various Swift 3 laptops I've seen show three different layouts):

- an M.2 SATA slot underneath a metal plate to the top left of the battery

- an M.2 SATA slot to the top right of the battery

- 2 M.2 SATA ports adjacent to each other on the left of the battery

Which style does my model have?

Thanks!

Your's is shown below. It should accept either an m.2 SATA3 or nvme, but SATA3's are more trouublefree. Jack E/NJ

the picture you have above does not look like the board for the mentioned question. here is the pic of my board of the same model number. I would like to use both slots and just use the HDD for storage. is that possible and what would fit into the slot in the lower right of the image. Thank You for your help

  • @John4076 This model supports optane memory. So it supports nvme too:

But I advise you to first update the bios to the latest version: https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_Acer_1.18_A_A.zip?acerid=637709965053011667&Step1=ULTRA-THIN&Step2=SWIFT&Step3=SF314-54&OS=ALL&LC=pt&BC=ACER&SC=PA_3

It's the same mainboard but without the fan, thermal module, and RAM heat shield installed as in your edited photo shown below. Yes, it will accept either an m.2 SATA or m.2 NVME SSD card. But note that it's socket below the heat shield as shown on your photo below. It's hold on screw is located just below the CMOS coin cell. You must disconnect the battery from the mainboard to avoid short circuit while working inside the laptop. I suggest the a WD blue series or Crucial NVME series would be perfect for this machine.

Awesome thank you JackE, very much appreciated. A 2280 will fit in that space? It seems long, I measured it thought it was maybe a 2260, but also i have never worked with this type of drive either. That's the part that got me, is on the website and the web itself, gave no info on the properties of that slot on the motherboard, and what would work in it. I saw it as an M.2 Slot and nothing more.

Yes, 2280 are recommended though other lengths are possible with the other screw mount or m.2 card spacers/extenders
