Heheh, you've given us awfully little to go by. :) What computer do you have? What does it do when you put a CD in? Does the CD drive show up in File Explorer?

I've the same problem. It used to work, but then stopped. I don't even know how long ago this happened as I've ignored the problem for so long. At any rate, here's the information you requested from STEVESWISS:
What computer do you have? Aspire V5
What does it do when you put a CD in? It makes that whirring sound it made previously (when it used to "wake up" and function), but then that noise stops. It never shows up as active.
Does the CD drive show up in File Explorer? NOPE!

Sorry I've been slow to respond, bit of an emergency here at home over the last week or two. Open it up and verify the SATA cable is solidly connected between the ODD and the motherboard. You'll get those symptoms if the drive is powered, but not connected.
