Temperatures spikes of 90C+ occur, but what you should look for is the average temperature.

You can further reduce the temperature by undervolting with throttlestop or Intel XTU.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Can you open task manager to see if the CPU and GPU usage are 0%. There might be some background software that is using resources.

What are the temperatures like when you are gaming or doing heavy tasks of both CPU and GPU?

cpu temps: between 60-85 degrees Celsius
    GPU temps: 40-70

85C(average) for a CPU while gaming is normal as long as it doesn't go above that. The GPU temp is normal as well.

Maybe there is a background task using the CPU.

during my last gaming session it actually reached 92 Degrees Celsius for the CPU   (never seen it go that far)

i've also went ahead and checked for background tasks with heavy usage on the CPU and didn't find any that went above my expectations.
everything was fine. which still makes me wonder what is causing the CPU to reach 92 degrees
