NO DRIVE LETTER FOR CD-DVD DISC DRIVE

I have an Acer Aspire 5733 laptop which is just over 12 months old. I have never used the disc drive, but now I have tried and it is not working at all and probably never did. It does not show up in my computer. I believe I have to map it to a drive letter, but I don't know how to do this.  Any suggestions?

This is the message from device status "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

    Right Click My Computer

Click Manage (if prompted enter administrator credentials)

    Click on Disk Management

Right click on the cd/dvd drive and click Change Drive Letters and Paths...

Click Add and select a letter for your drive
