Unable to operate laptop while battery is charging

Ever since purchasing this laptop 3 years ago, I have been unable to use it while power cord is plugged in to charge the battery.  When one tries this, as soon as the cord is plugged in, windows start popping up at random and there is a background of small circular flashes all over the screen.  This ceases when unit is unplugged.  With computer off it charges normally, and the computer operates normally on the battery once it is charged.

Any suggestions?  Power cord is the one that came with the laptop from acer.

Did you tried with a different power cord?

No, I assumed that as this came with the laptop it was the correct cord.  Thanks for reply.

Ok, but give a try. Because its been 3 years since you bought the unit. There are chance that the charger would have gone bad.
Try to check if you wish and it might resolve you problem.

Or if you have the charger you can try the below step which is simple and than try charging it.
power drain: Just check the back of the unit, you can find a pin hole , unplug the charger and turn off the unit. now put a paper clip in the small pin hole and press and hold it for 30 sec.
