What to do to fix and if HW failure, how do I know what to replace it with?

    Open the DVD tray. Blow air in and around the laser heads to dislodge any dust or debris. Also gently wipe the DVD disk with a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol. Unless you tried to install another Windows version or a new HDD/SSD, the hidden ACER-flavored Win7 recovery partition should already be available for re-installation by using the ALT + F10 recovery method as shown in the video below. A generic DVD version of Win7 may not work properly even with ACER device drivers due to some system file differences. Jack E/NJ
