*Context: I bought an Acer Predator G3-710. When i plug my headphones into the designated headphone jack it states that a speaker has been connected (im not sure if this is meant to happen). Additionally, the built-in microphone attached to the headphones isnt evident and cant be acessed

Do you mean your headphones have a single 3.5mm jack and your PC has 2 3.5mm jacks one for sound another one for microphone?

If that is the case you will need an adapter similar to this:3.5mm Audio Jack to Headphone and Microphone U Splitter Converter Adaptor https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01518S836/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_uKFjCbDEGZ29K
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

As ven98 says you need an adapter to split your plug into separate headphones/mic plugs. The green jack is for the headphones, the pink for the mic.

Actually I have sent a link to the wrong adapter. This is what you need - a single 3.5mm jack to audio and mic separate jacks.
