which m.2 ssd woud be compatible with the AMD nitro, the model that's sold in my country only has the 1tb HDD option so, seeing the other configurations in other countries with an m.2 ssd im assuming the slot is free, what would be the maximum size m.2 ssd that would be compatible? does it have to be nvme or sata or can it be either?

Also where do I find an Acer authorized repair to install the ssd m.2 and an additional 8gb ram? as I'm not risking having my warranty voided so any other places would have to wait until the warranty is out for me to do the upgrades there.

Thanks in advance

Any m.2 Sata SSD should work . Samsung, Crucial ,WD   are few  popular brands . NVME/PCie  drives may not work

Acer Has Just confirmed that a 2TB m.2 sata ssd WILL work with the system, also, as I said, any alterations void the warranty, if it breaks they will charge to fix, so im going to wait till the end of next year to add the components on my nitro 5

I had to read the chart 3 times, that chart is giving the max capacity? or is that the performance of the cards in reference there that already come in some models? @Jack22 thank you

@Jack22 buffer size is not capacity. does say SATA which would be what needs compatibility… now I'm considering saving for the 2TB version instead, its not one installation that ill be modifying and I have to take it to an authorized center or wait for warranty to run out then do it at the place where I got it or another shop, costs to have them install the drive, I wont be modifying it after it goes in. don't feel comfortable with this modifying this laptop and I definitely don't want my warranty to be voided. I read the fine print on the guarantee, you're not even allowed to increase the ram and use the empty slot without voiding the warranty, I don't care if I have chat transcripts saying to go ahead and take for upgrades when the paper warranty that NO ONE reads explicitly says NO changes to hardware and any change to the hardware can void the warranty, in a year tho, when acer warranty and nitro warranty expire, then ill actually get a specialist to install it.

I feel like each time I talk to Acer nitro chat support they want me to have my warranty voided so that they can say you broke the terms in small fine print in the warranty by upgrading and then the warranty is void. (really I would recommend reading the entire warranty) after the warranty is up then it wont matter, not doing the upgrades myself so theres 0 chance of things going wrong but a very high chance that just having bestbuy install the m.2 and ram will void acer's warranty

real bummer since the FPS is increased to VR levels when making this dual channel

@Jack22 that chart says 512MB not GB... and like I said its the buffer, I really don't want to create a new thread just to find out if there is max capacity or just instal the largest you can find, with the info ive gathered from here I would get a m.2 sata 3 2TB stick, unless by next year 4T becomes available.

Acer customer  support seems to be one of the worst in terms of  customer support .  Are they not willing to  support with upgrades ?  How will installing a SSD or RAM break the system according to them ? And why the hell do they sell a gaming laptop with a slow HDD at a premium price

@vkk I was quite surprised myself, what they said was that if there were problems the technichians would blame the 8gb 2400 laptop sodimm ram I bought or the 2TB m.2 ssd I am planning to buy, guess the upgrades will have to wait till a couple days before boxing day of next year when acer would charge me a ridiculus ammot for repair, but that's just me. im not taking risks given that they have a 2/5 star rating for warranty, although the build quality  now is really good compared to 2006, I still want to use my nitro 1 year warranty.... I mean a year of online support included? that's not something im letting go of

@vkk say that for some reason the ram makes everything faster...  (dual channel thats why i want to upgrade to take full advantage of ryzen gets a stupid ammount of fps boostthey could blame that for mobo failure, plus in a year a lot of owners will have done the upgrade althought the HDD has a read/write speed of 100Mb/s! (previous laptop was 2 years older and did like 10mb/s read write or something.

would like to say that this laptop rarely goes over 50C, 60C if you come fresh out of a heavy gaming session and turn it to auto... if it goes completely off 60C brings it back down... under a lot of workloads its 40c without maxing the fans, overall im impressed given how many threads ive read about nvidia and intel heat problems and surprising  userbenchmarked the graphic card... it scored on par and in some places better than the 1050. 29.3% benchmarked on Acer default hardware, ill benchmark in a year after I get the upgrades installed. I don't want to run the risk of loosing warranty.

Doesnt sound right .Increasing   Ram &  putting faster storage will put less overall  pressure on the system . Unless thermals  or hardware is designed badly are bad that is no reason why they should not not offer you support for  more  RAM &  slow HDD .In a years time this configuration would have become obsolete  and thats no way to enjoy a supposedly high end machine ..my 2 cents 🙂

@vkk I agree I already purchased the ram sinc I found a sweet deal on newegg, but it will remain unopened for a year, the 2TB ssd m.2 sata, i'll wait till next boxing day to see if I can grab one cheap its not something I want to constantly pay to replace so im getting one that will last my usage since ssds die.sshd that new technology, I prefer that, m.2 slot is empty tho and Acer confirmed the max supported size on m.2 is 2TB.

Still this Nitro warranty, not work the risk of voiding it.

@vkk the "in one year it will become obsolete" argument nly applies to the intel+nvidia versions as 9th gen intel is on sale now even to the public, 20xx series are coming out, the 500X series are 2018 boards, a Ryzen 2600h would be nice but im running all 4c/8t at 3.2ghz so that's plenty, the ryzen H series are for 2019, I looked into them compared the the u and since im always pushing all the juice out of it, I actually favor the u version as it generates minimal heat.
I bought this to use for the next 5-7 years+ not for 1 year.

🙂 exactly my point friend .  In one year you might find the components you are looking for obsolete  or hard to find . Anyways its personal preference .

talked to acer a bit more, 100% allowed to upgrade BUT if damage is done while upgrading the parts then its not covered, im having a retail shop install the m.2 & ram since I don't even want to damage the aesthetics. just waiting for 1tb of m.2 to arrive... 2tb was too much
