My Nitro 5 (AN515-53) is using the intel GPU during gaming and will not use the nVidia 1050ti GPU. I have spent days searching the web for solutions and none have worked. This is what I have done so far to try to remedy the situation.
Solutions that I have tried:
1)
removed
nVidia and intel GPU drivers and installed drivers from the Acer Support site
for my computer
2)
Opened
nvidia control panel and changed setting to select the nVidia 1050ti for high
performance
3)
selected
each game in the nVidia control panel to run on nVidia high performance
4)
Opened Win 10 Display Settings and designated
each game in the Graphics Settings section to run with nVidia high performance
GPU
5)
Right clicked the game and chose Run with
graphics processor > High Performance NVIDIA processor (default)
None of these have worked! The computer would switch GPU's properly when I first got it in Oct 2018. I highly suspect that the malfunction began after the latest Microsoft Win 10 update. I can monitor in NitroSense if the game is using the nVidia GPU by playing the game and then quitting to see if there has been any activity with the nVidia GPU. It shows that the nVidia GPU remains idle.
From reading earlier posts, I know that Optimus was used to determine GPU usage on earlier laptops with dual GPUs. What program is used to govern which GPU is being used now by Acer? Optimus appears to be a thing of the past. I've tried GeForce Experience to see if that would fix the problem by optimizing the games, but have had no success with that either.
In the past, I have built all of my gaming computers, but they were all desktop units. While I am no professional, I do understand much of what is being recommended by people on various forums. This laptop with a dual GPU system is new to me and any help would be greatly appreciated.
