E5-576G-81GD out of the box: wireless too weak to find networks or connect. Is this common?

Just powered up new Aspire E15. The wireless would only detect the non-5G version of my network and the signal was so weak that it wouldn't connect. (I need to go about 100 feet from the router into the backyard to have the signal appear this weak with my current Dell laptop.) I live in an apartment with a dozen networks that appear in range to three devices literally next to the new Aspire. Acer troubleshooting spent an hour with me but no luck, so I'm sending it back. Is this common? Should I just get a refund and try different model?

First check Device Manager for any red or yellow warnings. If none, please note which wifi or wlan adapter model you have in the Device Manager network folder. If ACER didn't have you try a full factory ALT+F10 cold boot reset as shown in the video below, do so now. If the problem persists after a reset, return it to the vendor/seller for a refund or exchange ASAP. Test it immediately after the reset before any automatic Win10updates have a chance to get installed on the machine.
