Hello. I have a new Acer Aspire 7 for several days in the following configuration: Processor: Intel Core i5-8300H Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti, + Intel UHD Graphics 630 Memory: 16 GB Disk: Samsung 250GB 970 EVO M.2 2280 NVMe +HDD The day before yesterday I installed Life is Strange: Before the Storm and during the game I did not feel that the laptop was hot enough. I even checked the graphics temperature just after the game was started: https://i.imgur.com/q3Xzn76.png It seems to me that the temperature of the processor then formed around 70 -75 C. However, there was Screen tearing and I tried to get rid of it yesterday and updated the graphics drivers, but it didn't help, but after intensive searches on the web I found out I can fix this by changing Frame rame limit from 60 FPS to "NO": https://i.imgur.com/uowqAil.png and it helped. However, today I noticed that the laptop was getting hotter and I think the fans were a bit louder. The game continued to go smoothly without any cuts. That's why I started to watch the temperature more closely. This is the result: After 5 minutes of play:https://i.imgur.com/tUL8oFU.png https://i.imgur.com/1G9Ylg5.png After 1h of game:https://i.imgur.com/5wLMLt4.png https://i.imgur.com/tNAyQAQ.png Normal use of the browser:https://i.imgur.com/tHe1vio.png My friend recommended me to do undervolt. So I started from -0,100 V and then I did 10 min stress test and later I increased it by another 0,010 etc. and after a some time I achieved value: -0,190 V and the CPU test was still ok but i decided to set: -0,180 V and I restarted computer and open the game. The temperatures are still high and the fan comes to full speed. Temperature after 5 minutes of play:https://i.imgur.com/iiDDWSv.png 2 minutes after the screenshot jumped up to 97 C I launched IETU at a similar time and this is how it looks like: https://i.imgur.com/upS5feB.png What's wrong?

One caveat with Intel XTU is it does not default run on startup. So, without manually adding it to the startup process you won't be undervolted after you reboot. On top of that, even when you have XTU set to run on startup, it sometimes will not apply your undervolt profile if it's sensed a power mode change or other scenarios. One example; if you boot without the AC adapter plugged in it will boot to default battery profile. OR if the computer recovers from a crash, it loads the default profile. Also after various driver updates, and Windows updates; it will load the default profile. Basically at every boot, when XTU pops up, you need to manually verify the undervolt profile is loaded.

I think that may be why you're not seeing results from the initial undervolt. You specifically stated setting to -0.180v and rebooting before testing in game. Be sure after rebooting, XTU process is running and the undervolt profile is loaded instead of default. If it's not popping up after login, it's not configured right. Another indication of it not applying the undervolt is no reduction in thermals. At -0.180v offset you should absolutely be seeing results.

I also have the aspire 7 tho i have the 500 gb model. Anyways i also did undervolt mine to -180v a month ago with throttlestop but didn't see much of an improvement in temps for example when i did inner throttlestop stress test the max temps were 97 C and now they are around 95-96 C. I think this laptop just has poor thermal aplication thats all. Sure the cooling system is not the greatest but thats not why it should get that hot. Tobimaru if you have any tips for lowering temps beside a laptop coolpad and disabling turbo, or even using throttlestop please share it here.

So it will be work when I open XTU just before I open the game?
How can I manually add it to the startup process?

tobimaru you were right. It turned out that I didn't add XTU to autostart and that's why it didn't work :D Fortunately, the temperatures dropped.
