I don't know if it makes any performance difference at all but its weird.

I used Minitool and did a 1 to 1 clone of my Lite-On RAID array via a USB-C Nvme enclosure, then I removed both of of the Lite-On drives and installed the 970 Evo in the bottom slot.

I had to turn off Secure Boot to get the Nvme to boot, I don't think this makes any difference in speed so I don't care about that, once I was in Windows I used Minitool to expand the partition to fill up the whole drive.

I have a 1 tb 850 Evo SATA SSD for games. In Samsung Magician it says that AHCI mode is deactivated.

I uninstalled the Intel RAID software and I still can't change RAID to AHCI in the BIOS.

Does having AHCI even make a difference in performance?

  • Hi,
There's no option for AHCI in BIOS, your system runs in AHCI mode but you may encounter problems if you update the BIOS in future using Windows utility, so if you want to update BIOS, try switching to RAID using IRST before updating BIOS.
There are no noticeable difference between RAID0 and AHCI except in benchmark( my snips are for different model).

AHCI with one 256GB NVMe SSD:
