TC 885 m.2 support NVMe - I want to make sure it is PCIe which supports NVMe

edited November 2022 in Aspire and Veriton Desktops
I'm just looking to confirm that the TC-885 series desktops support the m.2 NVMe protocol, namely as a boot drive.  I understand Acer lists these models with PCIe m.2 slot, but I want to make sure it is PCIe which supports NVMe as I've read that not all PCIe m.2 slots do.  If I install an NVMe ssd will I get the full benefits, or will it just become "backwards compatible" and then I obviously would not be reaping the full potential of a NVMe ssd and therefore paying extra $ for specs I'm unable to use.

This model has two M.2 slots.
One M.2 (2242/2280) for PCIe SSD and Intel Optane memory ( Slot no 8 in below image)
One M.2 (2230/1630) with USB2.0 for WLAN/Bluetooth (slot no 18 in the below image)

I believe that any models that support Intel Optane memory support NVMe.

    See this thread.
    First adapter's argument for NVMe.
If you are frugal & use your computer for mundane tasks, then there is no reason to upgrade.

Thank you for posting that pic. It prevented me from asking the same question. I was trying to locate where the M.2 sockets were and a picture is worth ten thousand words. Now I can order my M.2 and I know where to install it. Great job.

If someone has a complete copy of the above partial photo of the mainboard, please post it. I have that in my TC-885 and would like to know exactly what each connector of it is for. Seems data on it is very rare as Acer does not make it available in a repair/upgrade manual like other PC companies do. Thanks

I have a full photo, but it doesn't have the pinouts on the connectors.
You can see the two M.2 slots (the one by the processor is for WiFi only, the one at the front is for SSD only) and the three SATA ports.

Hi, I am trying to install a new NVME SSD to this board.

When I boot from windows 10 USB, the M.2 drive isn't listed. I have downloaded the Mobo drivers from the Acer website and when I select load driver from install screen and navigate to the USB containing the rapid storage driver, it finds the device but when it trys to install the driver, the progress bar gets near the end then jumps back to the beginning repeatedly.

Can anyone advise as to what could be causing this as I cannot move on with the install?

Also could anyone advise what the correct BIOS settings are required just as a check that I haven't sissed something.

The BIOS build is dated 2020 which is more recent than the BIOS file on the Acer Website too

    Many thanks guys.

Have you disconnected your original hard drive or cloned it to the new drive then disconnect.

It has to have windows installed to recognize as bootable but I think the Windows Create USB should do it if you disconnect the original drive. Good Luck and keep up posted.
