I have an aspire e5-574 series acer laptop. I have had it for around 5-6 years now and I just noticed this dvd compartment. I have windows ten and I can’t find anything about a dvd drive.

If your device shipped with an optical drive, there should be a release button in the front panel to open it.  If the tray does not release, look for the emergency release opening & insert a straight metal pin to release the tray.  If that does not work, go to File Explorer, right click on the optical drive & click "Eject".

Is there a way to add an optical drive or an hd or ssd caddy to models that didn't ship with a optical drive? I have the e5-575G that shipped with no optical drive, He might be asking how to remove the cover. I saw a video that said it was 2 clips, but I am not sure myself.

Per the video below; 1 screw, remove blank, insert optical drive & replace screw.

Regarding HDD/SSD caddy, unless you are in North America, kit is difficult to obtain. For North American users, kit request form.

Thanks very much for the info. My aspire came with a 1tb hd and a 256gb ssd, and no optical drive. I'm guessing that like me, Alice's model didn't come with an optical drive and just had a blank. I was looking for an hd caddy for the optical drive bay.

I'm tempted to get an optical drive, hd caddy, and an hd/ssd that fits, and an IPS screen but I can't contact Acer support to verify any of the compatibility. It's weird their technical support expires after a year. I've never seen that before, lol.

Here are the links I have found. I can probably just use a usb optical drive on the rare occasions I need one.
