You must set & save a BIOS supervisor password. Then go back into the BIOS with the password to change to UEFI bootstrap and disable secure boot. And yes, take out the old Win7 drive when you're trying to install Win10 on the EVO. We can work on the old drive after the EVO is running Win10. Jack E/NJ

If you cloned the old drive, Windows should already be installed on the new drive. Have you installed the new drive into the mainboard slot? Jack E/NJ

Sounds like the Samsung 970 stick is in an external caddy.
Did you try using another USB port?
What had you used as the destination drive for the system image?
Post an image of the native Disk Manager.

I achieved it by putting my old SATA SSD in the new machine and booting in legacy mode. From there i could install Windows 10 on the 970 evo, only problem now is windows 10 is on MBR partition so i cannot update bios. If i reinstall windows 10 as GPT will i be able to update BIOS?

    (1) What is your full ACER model number of your new laptop? And what was its  factory installed operating system if any? (2) What did your old hard drive come out of and what Windows version was on it?  Jack E/NJ

I convert disk to GPT using the program gptgen, then when i tries to install windows 10 it gave message 'cannot install to a GPT partition'.

Aspre A717-71G, it came with Windows 10 but have since sold the SSD it came on. I performed the CLEAN command on the 970 EVO and then convert GPT. Then i installed Windows 10 on the unallocated space. Now i typed LIST DISKS and the GPT tag is missing from both disks, thr other disk is Windows 7 MBR. BIOS update still does not work, says mount the EFI system partition failed.

First, Win7 doesn't support GPT partitioning and won't be recognized by UEFI bootstrapper. You cannot convert an Win7 system disk to GPT. The SSD you sold also had the ACER-flavored Win10 hidden recovery partition on it. That SSD you sold is the one you should've cloned or imaged the system onto the EVO.

If you tried to install Microsoft generic Win10 onto the EVO, the Microsoft installation USB creation tool should've been able to do it all for you. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

I did try the Media Creation tool but there was an unexplained error and none of my USB drives would bootm i tried rufus and that wouldn't boot either. Windows 7 is on a separate SSD, i wasn't trying to convert windows 7.

Were the USB installation drives partitioned GPT and formatted FAT32 with the Win10 iso added with Rufus? Jack E/NJ

When i try to convert gpt from Windows 7 i get the message - Virtual disk service error the specified disk is not convertible.

You said earlier >>>Windows 7 is on a separate SSD, i wasn't trying to convert windows 7.>>>
Now you just said>>>When i try to convert gpt from Windows 7 i get the message>>>

I'm confused. Win7 does not support GPT partitioning. What are you trying to do? Jack E/NJ

BIOS is not allowing me to start in EUFI mode so i tried in windows 7, maybe if i remove the SSD with windows 7 on and just start with the windows 10 drive installed would that work?

I removed the windows 7 disk but it wouldn't boot at all then, in EUFI or Legacy. There is no system reserved partition on the Windows 10 disk so i#m guessing there is something missing on it.

Yes that is correct. You must boot from the Microsoft Installation media that you created in the directions from the Microsoft creation tool site https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10   This is what you use to install Win10 on the EVO in UEFI mode, not legacy. Jack E/NJ

I found it could only install on the same drive as it is run and i don't want to write over my Windows 7.

Which drive has Win7. The new EVO or the old Win7 drive? We're only putting Win10 on the new EVO. Jack E/NJ
