Unable to connect my windows phone with laptop checked all over "file explorer".

After resetting Lumia 640 Lte will not connect with laptop, tried a soft phone reset (reboot) no joy. Everything set to on/ on phone wi/fi bluetooth etc. Did another hard reset, obtained all photos and files when I added my email account. I won't attempt a laptop reboot, as suggested in Google, I got into a lot of difficulties, doing this procedure. Rescued by Microsoft Technician, any suggestions please outside a "reboot"
The phone charges through USB cable and USB port on laptop, so no problem here.
Any advice welcome, checked on Acer help checked everything up to date, although I have downloaded all 14 "Drivers" in zipped files but am not sure I should do anything with these, after I ran a check on acer help, these are in download folders if I need to do anything with them.
