Hi guys,

As you've read in title, laptop screen freezes and goes like photo attached. Nothing can be done on the laptop until I switch it off completely by holding on/off button, which is obviously very frustrating when hours deep into a game you haven't saved.

Has anybody experienced this before/know what the problem may be? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

No it didn’t happen when I first got the laptop. I have had this laptop for around 4-5 years now and has been doing it for at least the last 2.5 years.

    Full model number is E1-572-74506G75Mnkk

    >>>frustrating when hours deep into a game>>> has been doing it for at least the last 2.5 years.

If this seems to be happening more often and/or after gradually shorter heavy-load periods, the cpu is probably overheating due to dust/debris getting sucked into the fan and heatsink fins over the years. I suggest alternately vacuuming the air intakes and blowing air into the air exhausts a dozen or so times to try to dislodge and remove this and avoid disassembly.  Jack E/NJ

Did all that you suggested but not much dust or debris came out. Will see how laptop holds up today. Is there anything else other than overheating that could cause this?

Probably not. Keep the laptop raised above a hard surface under heavy load so as not to restrict airflow thru the bottom vents. If this doesn't work, might have to open it up for more thorough dusting around the fan and maybe re-paste the heatsink to the CPU. Jack E/NJ
