Trackpad - Can't Take It Anymore!!

What's going on with my trackpad?! I've got a Predator G9-793-79V5 laptop, and I'm having problems (really, basically since the day I've owned the laptop!) with my trackpad that are literally driving me NUTS!! The pointer keeps freezing for a second or two as I'm trying to move it around the screen, and when I'm trying to select, say, menu items, it's very jerky, making selecting the right item extremely difficult. This even happens when I'm using my Logitech MX Master wireless mouse (well, at least, the freezing of the pointer as I'm trying to move it about the screen happens with the mouse; the pointer isn't really very jerky in that scenario). I went into the BIOS and changed the trackpad from "Advanced" to "Basic"; rebooted, and then changed it back to "Advanced" - that hasn't helped (to be honest, it was almost better under "Basic", it just wasn't as responsive, or I'd have left it like that). At one time, I installed the Microsoft precision trackpad drivers (for Synaptics), but I rolled the driver back after I read somwhere that those drivers weren't compatible with a recent Windows update, and it's still just really bad. I almost don't want to use the laptop because the trackpad is so aggravating!!

Anyone else have this issue? Anyone know how to fix this, or have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Dennis

  • Hi,
You could disconnect Logitech mouse for the time being, go to BIOS and switch to Basic mode for Touchpad, download Synaptics driver version  19.0.25.8 in Acer support site and save it in the Desktop, then go to Device manager, expand Human Interface devices and uninstall driver for Synaptics HID device, install the downloaded driver, go back to BIOS and switch to Advanced mode, hope that fixes the problem.

Is this the same for G3-572 too? Acer did a bad job on G3-572 in terms of drivers... relying on Windows to load internal drivers for most components like trackpad and such.

My 572 always worked fine never had to change/uninstall any drivers (neither windows changed them in any update) apart from the sound driver to fix the crackling in the first day i got it :)

I didn't say I have a problem, but the problem arises since neither drivers nor osd software is available if anyone, like me for example, wanted to use another OS.

    Hi @sri369
Yes, it's going to be like that in future, even firmware updates(BIOS) are going to be handled by the Windows Update.

Way too much control on a product I purchased. And resetting the software at will irrespective of I am using or not, I kinda don't like this kind of "leased model". I downgraded mine to 7. And unless there is a feasible version of windows available might go the non windows route when i am forced to get off 7.

I tried this; it didn't help at all (FYI - that version of the Synaptics driver was already installed, but I did as you suggested, anyway). My Logitech wireless mouse wasn't in any way connected to the laptop, as I'm in my truck at a rest area in VA, and the mouse is at my apartment, in OH. The cursor is just as jittery as ever (making it EXTREMELY hard to click on the correct things), and it's still completely freezing, often for 1-2 seconds at a time.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Dennis
  • Hi Dennis,
You could try reinstalling Quick Access Application, Quick Access Application is very similar to old Launch Manager and controls Keyboard and touchpad, go to Acer support site and download it, uninstall the current installation in Control panel, Programs, then install the downloaded Application.
