Hello guys can anyone tell me whats the main difference between RAID and AHCI? can i change from raid to ahci? And further more am i bound to use two ssd's of same storage or capacity? E.g 500gb on both slots???

Answers

  • Hi,
These models come with RAID enabled for SATA mode in BIOS and no option available to switch to AHCI, yes, you have to use same size SSDs in both slot for RAID, recommended size 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

Do you already have a 1TB HDD in the bay and 240GB M.2 SSD?  What do you mean by caddy for second ssd?

The caddy dvdr to hdd adapter will never give you ssd performance will only give you normal sata hdd and even sata really poor speeds it was not made for that it was made for storage only (the dvd sata port will never support high speeds even sata speeds will be sata 2 or something) not performance so no i don't advise it and even if you are thinking in replacing/adding an ssd to the second drive slot (where you have your 1tb drive) it will be a waste of money as the ssd will not cache anything will perform as a normal hdd because your main system is already on ssd what counts here is the OS

Like i said the dvdr sata port was not made for performance you will always loose performance and any 2.5 ssd as secondary drive (even in the normal sata port) will always perform as a normal hdd as will not cache anything the same way the ssd where the OS is installed so don't expect you are going to get more performance that you 1tb hdd because you won't the only thing you will get extra is space in case you would have a laptop with already 2 hdds and add another one in the dvdr's place personally i wouldn't waste money on the ssd won't do u any good being used in that way
